Goodbye
I know a lot of people said about the previous animated strip that you could only see the wobbling because I had pointed it out, and I realise I’m punching myself in the face with my own hands by pointing it out again, but it is actually wobbling more this time. And they mysterious thing is, I took great lengths to try and prevent that happening. The only explanation I can come up with is that with all the stampeding, those kids are knocking the background like a cheap set on a 70’s sitcom.
There’s another animation mistake in there too but I’m not saying what it is!
The wobbling is really not that bad. I noticed another jolt here. It happens when the flowery kid begins to walk off at the left side of the strip. It could just be my browser though. Meh.
other then the wobble im not sure. maybe im just too tired.
i don’t mind the slight wobble.. it’s cute
sometimes the best animations are jittery.. take don don hertzfeldt’s work for instance!
the only other ‘mistake’ i noticed is that the green one is already walking out the door before he’s even off screen haha.
i don’t know if i consider that an error or plain awesome haha
he’s faster than time
I understand where you’re coming from. I’m majoring in animation and I’m always harsh on myself. What I’ve been told is that if the average joe can’t see your mistake then you can get away with it. That being said, I never find that satisfying. I noticed the other mistake: one of the children has an incredibly strong leg and sense of balance.
THE WOBBLIN’ IS FINE. DON’T WORRY. This made me aww. C:
Found it. The green child has found a wormhole it seems.
When I first looked at the comic, before I read the text below it, I saw only Colin wobbling. It just
looked like he was super tired and barely staying on his feet.
I think the vibration works really well, actually. It makes him look even more frazzled, bleary, and tired.
Colin can have some rest now! (*0*)
awwwww poor colin! the panda eyesssss
Umm..say it’s an earthquake xD But really, it isn’t that bad at all
And on that note: poor Colin!
Nicely done–the wobble is negligible and doesn’t detract from the animation. Awesome!
The wobbling isnt that bad…. however the fact that colin’s head is alsmost as big as his door, and his house isnt that much taller than him, its a wonder he can get in in the first place. unless of course his house is like dr. Who’s TARDIS, bigger on the inside than the outside.
WOW that was hard to notice. Really hard.
The other animation mistake is the little checkered kid, his body flips back and fourth.
In the first animation, he was trembling in fear. Now, he’s trembling with sadness and exhaustion.
Awesome comic and animation!!!
Maybe, the flow, is slow, because, Colin is actually sad.
Looks great! hehe.
Poor ol’ Colin, he has such a big heart.
Poor Colin. I can’t even imagine what that weekend must have been like. LOL

The wobbling is perfect. I wouldn’t change it. I don’t see any “mistakes” that I would correct.
Now Colin can get some sleep
And I didn’t even notice the checkered kid “mistake” until Jeremy K. pointed it out.
I like the wobbling. It adds to the strip’s charm and the hand-made aesthetic.
Guys, come on. Don’t point out mistakes as if it’s a I SPY game. That’s just going to make Phillipa feel bad. Obviously this is one of your early attempts with animation and i applaud you for taking on such a daunting task. It will only get better from there – and soon enough you’ll feel slightly better about those “wobbles”. It is still a beautiful strip nonetheless.
I think Phillipa can take some good-natured ribbing about the endearing quirks in her comics. Plus, she’s a really great animator (and a fantastic showreel editor!): http://www.philippajrice.com/animation_showreel.html
I wonder how she’s going to convey these awesome animations in her books/
Perhaps a flip-book animation section?
Hey, I agree with everybody else that the wobbling is actually fine and sells the point of your comic — handmade. But if you really want to avoid it, there’s a way that I usually do which works for me, since we’re both doing the animation with layers. How I do it is that I create a layer with the static stuffs, in this case the house n Colin. Then I move on to get the animated stuff on each layer as you would for each frame. When I’m set I make copies of the static frame and merge each moving layer onto one copy of the static layer. In that case, the static layer is the same each time. But this is not very handmade, and it might even take out some of the fun. Cheers…
OMG… I read “goodbye” and hadn’t seen a new comic in a few days and I got so scared. I thought you had decided to end the strip! Phew.
Ha, the purple one looks like he’s hobbling along with one leg while the other trails behind. A bipedal version of the wagon-wheel effect?
That animation was excellent! Cheers!
so everyone is like oooh the green one has found a wormhole while i’m the blue one’s bottom is changing colours
Once you see the wobbling, you can’t unsee it.
I actually thought the animations were really nice, and the wobbling wasn’t that bad. The only thing I noticed was that when the kids are coming in, there’s only 6, and when they’re leaving I counted 7. Where’d the red floral pattern one come from? o:
Isn’t the house slightly small for Collin D:
there is on more child then in the first one!
also, siarnaq, OMG i laughed till i cried when i read that!
In the process of reading through the archive. This one is awesome! How you coordinated the kids walking and running at different speeds and some of them outpacing the others…amazing!
I didn’t really notice the wobbling an awful lot, but I did notice an extra cjild this time. Nice work, anyways!
thats sad poor colin
