Liquorice Allsorts. I’d be interested to know if you’ve heard of them, because I don’t think they’re a globally recognised confectionery. I’d be more interested to know if anyone actually likes them, they taste absolutely awful.
I’m updating Monday – Friday this week, so don’t miss the extra strip on Thursday (and click previous to see yesterdays strip if you missed it).
What a delicious comic!
Liquorice Allsorts are well-known in both Australia and New Zealand – but not well liked.
Yes they are! By my mother
I LOVE liquorice allsorts ^_^
i do not.
my mother, however, loves liquorice
My Dad loves them.
We live in Australia.
I think it’s called something strange like bridge mix here in the US.
it took me a while (and some Googling) to understand the comic.. Allsorts not known here in India.
They’re not recognized in Romania, but they are in Denmark ..and yes they do taste awful..
from NZ – LOVE <3 liquorice allsorts. As far as I know they’re well like by many. Although black liquorice does seem to be an acquired taste.
I’ve never liked licorice, even the All Sorts kind. It’s nice to see you’ve put them to good use.
I’m form the US and I never heard of them. Or at least by that name.
I live in Canada. I love licorice allsorts. Get packs of them every Christmas
I live in the US and I’ve definitely heard of them, but likely only by reading so many British children’s books growing up.
us welsh boy LOVE our allsorts !!
I’m in the U.S. and I’ve never heard of them.
i dont like them, but i know someone who absolutely loves them..
I used to eat the coloured bits and throw the liquorice away – I really don’t like liquorice!
I LOVE allsorts! Except for the blueberry ones which taste like vomit.
They do the ones that are just the fruity bits now. They are nice!
I moved from the UK to the US when I was 4. I love allsorts, and their liquorice-free cousins, Dolly Mix! I was in England this summer, and filled my suitcase full of them, Jelly Babies, Extra Strong Mints, Crunchies, Double Deckers…
I know the in UK, they are pretty nasty. Nice comic though
I know a guy who LOVES them. I am pretty sure he just eats them because that way nobody else wants them and he gets the whole bag to himself.
im canadian and pretty much everyone here knows about them. most like them.. i dont but we have them all over christmas.
UK shares the hate of liquorice with you. Eeeeeew!
In Belgium, we call it English liquorice. I think it’s yummie!
I’m from The Netherlands and wanted to say the same
Love it!
I only ever had an Allsort once. it was horrid. Maybe it was just stale. I dunno. The only other time I encountered Allsorts was in an episode of Doctor Who. For some reason, instead of jelly babies, Tom Baker had them in “Image of the Fendahl,” and offered one to the skull thing. It promptly attacked him. Though the Doctor did discard the Allsort before the attack, he was attacked by the skull anyway. Lesson learned! These sweets are bad! So bad, they’ll prompt an attack by a million-year-old skull!
I’m from Ohio, USA and I have never heard of them.
Never heard of them here in Brazil. But the black&pink one looks tasty!
I love the Pink/Yellow round ones with liquorice in the middle. And the white/organge stacked ones
I can only ever stand black licourice when it’s in all sorts. (Canadian btw)
you made them look soo cute!
Oh, liquorice! I love it! In all kinds, even Finnish salmiakki (salty liquorice) is really good. I’m from Poland, but when my father sends sweets from Ireland, there MUST be pack of Liquorice Allsorts. My little brothers hate it, so the whole one pound pack is for me only. hehehe
I’m not a fan of the Allsorts or black liquorice, but I’ve been known to eat the pink and yellow stuff at aunts’ and grandmothers’ houses…
I’m from the US and I know what they are, but I didn’t know what they were called. My great grandmother loves them so we always get them for her. I only like the ones with the little sprinkly things on them.
Well they’re known here in Sweden… I don’t know if it’s know as allsorts though! And I’ve always thought they seemed disgusting.
I don’t personally like Allsorts but they’re pretty strongly associated with my grandfather here in Canada.
I’m from the US. I’ve eaten these before, but I never knew the name of them. I think they are OK. I like licorice, but these are kind of odd.
Haha I love the little layered ones with yellow and white. They’re sooo cute. xD!
Oh my, I think I’ve had them before, or something similar. *Shudder* My grandma used to get them when I was little, and they tasted awful! I live in the U.S, and judging on the comments it’s interesting that I know them (Or something similar). I see them (or something similar) at Wal-mart in the candy aisle and I always joke with my sister about getting them when I see them.
But then again, my family is very familiar with British items and that.
One time my family was going on a trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia (several hours by plane from Alberta where we lived), and my mum took me to the store to buy a treat for the long trip. Being for years old and easily impressed by their colourful appearance, I chose licorice allsorts against my mum’s advice. Ultimately I ended up eating tic tacs, because licorice is gross even when it is pretty. I learned my lesson. Licorice allsorts are for cute puns and decorating monster cupcakes, not for actual human consumption.
This was probably my favorite one thus far! <3
All-sorts known and loved by my mother and grandfather, but certainly not well-liked by me or anyone else I know. I like all the different colors and shapes, however.
And I ADORE them in this comic. <3
My mum loves those “Liquorice Allsorts”. I hate them.
When I was at school (in England) we had to make an art project hiding an Allsort as part of the picture, like using one of the round ones as a wheel for example. I used a black and white stacked one and absolutely filled my page with drawn ones and glued the real one on there afterward. It look quite cool.
I can’t stand liquorice though. And why do people keep mentioning the “black liquorice”. It only comes in black! Doesn’t it? The red stuff doesn’t count.
they do taste awful. the only licorice i like is regular red licorice.
My grandma loved them, I hate licorice but I would eat the outside parts of the donut-looking ones ’cause they tasted vaguely like coconut and I love coconut.
I’ve never seen those before!
Licorice allsorts, HARRY POTTER! -luff-
-australia.
Eugh. I’m in Canada and I’ve eaten these things…They’re always in old peoples’ candy bowls >_>
I hate those things.
Aww, I remember allsorts! I went to York ages and ages ago, and this little family run shop had some. The ‘keep’s favorite was a round butterscotch with licorice in the middle. The sweetness of the butterscotch kinda mellowed everything out. (tho the first time I had it I thought I was going to throw up from the taste!)
thats such a waste of allsorts…
i have heard of them b4, but i never eaten them.
wonder how it tastes like…
While they do not go by the same name, Allsorts are sold in most shops in Sweden. As for the latter question: I only like one of them.
people from new york city have heard of them! theyre popular with irish and jewish families. i personally think they are awful, but they look really good.
I’m in the US, near Atlanta. We have licorice allsorts, but I’m not sure anyone eats them. We don’t have sherbet balls or wine gums here, though. In fact, in the American edition of Harry Potter, the term “sherbet lemon” is replaced with “lemon drop”, even though lemon drops aren’t fizzy.
I live in the U.S (iowa to be more specific) and i see them every day at my grandparents house.f they love them to death for some reason
I also live in Iowa and I have also seen these, but not often and I agree they’re disgusting.
I’ve seen them, but I didn’t know the name until now!
Aw, I’ve always wanted to know what they tasted like
But if they taste like licorice, then I am disappoint.
wow. you just got candys on your comic. i would never do that. #lovecandys!
